How Do I Know Which Way to Go?Turkey Run State Park hosts a few moderate hikes through a gorge dressed with Indiana maples. It's my favorite go-to locally when I need a nature fix. Recently I hiked with a few friends and we came to a trail crossing, several of us not knowing which way headed back toward the car. We picked one way. It was right (thank God). It seems to me life can feel like this sometimes. We stop in a place where we're not quite sure which good path is the best path. In this week's episode we meditate on wisdom literature written by Solomon that will remind us of the principles to live by—to align ourselves to hopefully discern which path God wants us to take, as well as other helpful wisdom to live by. THIS WEEK'S EPISODE ReadProverbs 3:1–18 My son, do not forget my teaching, 3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you; 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; 9 Honor the Lord with your wealth, 11 My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, 13 Blessed are those who find wisdom, ReflectWhat did the Spirit highlight for you from this passage? Choose 1-2 verses from above and repeat them to yourself. Breathe. Soak in the truth of the text. Now, what is one step you will take today to live out this truth? PrayPray about your reflections above or anything else the Spirit brings to mind. Story of the Gospel Connection"Do not be wise in your own eyes." Oh, those words can sting. . . but they also offer refreshing truth. In our generation, the world's wisdom (which is foolishness) seems to be crowding out the true wisdom of the gospel of Jesus Christ. In fact, Paul wrote about this in 1 Cor. 1:21. "For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe." When we depend on what the world says is true about us and about Jesus, we can become fools. But when we meditate on God's Word, we realize our place: smack in the middle of our desperate need for God's grace. Looking back, how did you see God at work in your life last week? I would love to hear by your reply to this email. May you have a well soul this week, Want to know how to study the Bible? Download your free guide here:

How Big is God's Love? Photo by Johannes Plenio on Unsplash "Jesus loves me, this I know," children sing in Sunday school. But do we really believe this? I think sometimes I question God's love—especially when I know I fall short of how he would want me to live. But I'm not alone in my inability to comprehend the vastness of God's love (and neither are you). The Apostle Paul wrote a prayer to the Ephesian believers that they would know God's love. If they already knew the depths of God's love,...
How Can We Know God Better? Photo courtesy of unsplash Sometimes I think we know God as well as we know our distant aunt who lives states away. We believe our aunt exists, we’re related to her, but we live too far away to know her well. Maybe this kind of distant relationship with God is what Apostle Paul felt when he prayed for the believers in Ephesus to know God better (Eph. 1:17). He used two different Greek words for “knowing,” which emphasizes the depth to which Paul longed for...
When You Walk Through the Valley Photo courtesy of unsplash My grandma was the first person I saw die. Several of our family members stood around her hospital bed as she took a painful last breath—and I'll never forget what came to my mind: She was surrounded by loved ones, but she had to cross the valley of death on her own. I think the same is true for many kinds of valleys in our lives—no other human can walk with us through them, completely. This week on the podcast we mediate on Psalm...
